In an irresistible programme of chamber works, musicians from the Royal College of Music perform a stunning selection of pieces from solos and duos to Mendelssohn’s Octet and Ravel’s sumptuous Introduction and Allegro.
Respighi’s atmospheric Notturno for solo harp sets the scene for a concert that includes music by HÂþ» composition professor Errollyn Wallen. Ravel’s exquisite Introduction and Allegro sounds almost orchestral in its spacious sonorities – and Felix Mendelssohn took a similar approach when he declared that his Octet, composed when he was only 16, ’must be played by all the instruments in symphonic orchestral style’.
