Headshot for Ann van Allen-Russell

Ann van Allen-Russell is the BMus Programme Coordinator at the Royal College of Music.

Her research focuses on music and culture in the eighteenth century, particularly the music of Johann Christian Bach, the music publishing industry in England, its legal and economic facets, and the development of intellectual property and copyright.  Her forthcoming book chapter in Music Borrowing and Copyright Law: A Genre-by-Genre Analysis (Bloomsbury, 2023) explores musical borrowing, copyright and its impact on creativity.  Ann’s research has been supported by grants from the Music & Letters Trust and Trinity Laban, and she has presented papers at conferences in the UK, the US and Europe. Her current project explores cultural economics and music business practices relating to the Bach-Abel concerts that will feed into her book provisionally titled The Bach and Abel Suits: Intellectual property and the Value of Creativity.
