Charlotte Harding has new work commissioned by Tri-borough Music Hub

Royal College of Music graduate Charlotte Harding has had an ambitious new composition commissioned by the (TBMH) in collaboration with the Royal College of Music (HÂþ»­) and Royal Albert Hall, supported by funding from the .

The composition, entitled ‘Convo’, will have its world premiere at the Royal Albert Hall on 7 March 2019. The piece is a musical journey through human evolution, from our first interactions with nature to a 21st century saturated in technology. Charlotte won the prestigious Royal College of Music Queen Mother Rosebowl award in 2012, presented by HRH The Prince of Wales. Of her TBMH commission she said, “I am thrilled to have been commissioned to create a work for this incredible project and am very much looking forward to the exciting, innovative and collaborative music-making ahead.”

Young musicians from schools across three London boroughs will contribute to the composition and performance of ‘Convo’. During the 2017-18 academic year Charlotte will work with pupils, schools and ensembles to create musical ideas that will be woven into the piece. The performance at the Royal Albert Hall will see a massed instrumental ensemble of TBMH young musicians playing alongside professional musicians. They will support a massed chorus of almost a thousand primary, secondary and special school pupils.

will be involved in supporting a number of elements of the project including the workshops Charlotte will lead, as well as providing instrumental mentors to support weekly TBMH ensembles. They will also be part of the schools support package for teachers and pupils as they learn the vocal material. Sparks will offer HÂþ»­ students a range of training opportunities to develop important skills for working with children and young people from a variety of school and community settings.

Speaking of Charlotte’s achievement, Hayley Clements, Head of Learning and Participation at the HÂþ»­ said, “Charlotte has written and produced music for many high profile clients and concert halls, fusing her colourful musical background and classical training with her passion for live musicianship, creative approaches and high level production. We are very much looking forward to working with Charlotte.”

Following the award-winning project in 2015, ‘Convo’ will be the Tri-borough Music Hub’s most ambitious project to date. Manager of the TBMH, Stuart Whatmore said, “We are thrilled to be working with Charlotte and can’t wait to hear the end result!”
